Like all unions, IATSE 119 exists to represent its members and to protect their rights. Through collective bargaining with signatory employers, IATSE 119 seeks to obtain the best rates, terms, conditions, and benefits for its technicians.

WAGE FLOORS

IASTE 119 sets wage minimums for each position so that anyone employing a member for a union job at least must meet those rates. Only the minimums are set, and most technicians can negotiate above their wage minimums.

HEALTHCARE & RETIREMENT

Upon completing the application process and acceptance of membership, technicians are enrolled in IATSE’s National Benefit Funds, which includes pension, annuity and healthcare plans.

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

Being a part of a labor union gives you strength in numbers. You have the power to negotiate your rates and working conditions. Prior to each upcoming contract negotiation window, IATSE 119 collects the wants and needs of its members and negotiates with signatory employers to seek the best contract possible.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

IATSE offers several education courses, including but not limited to Officer training, Secretary-Treasurer training, and Trustees training. Some topics and courses are available to view or participate online. IATSE 119 also has access to IATSE’s Training Trust Fund (TTF) to help educate and train its members in their crafts. Members of the union can partake in pre-approved courses.

UPHOLDING THE CONTRACT

IATSE 119 employs a Business Agent (BA), who represents members and who serves as a liaison between the Local and its signatory employers. IATSE 119 also has a steward program. Any violations reported directly to the BA by members, and any brought to the BA by stewards will be investigated, and if necessary, pursued with employers by the BA.

THE INTERNATIONAL

IATSE 119 has the full support of IATSE’s Broadcast Department. This Department bargains CBA’s with signatory employers on behalf of and in conjunction with IATSE 119. The Department also directs IATSE 119’s local leadership to other point people and resources throughout IATSE. In addition to passing along IATSE communications, the Department also provides guidance and direction on Constitutional and procedural matters.
